Daniel Cormier has revealed the one reason why reigning UFC bantamweight queen Merab Dvalishvili hates cutting weight.

This weekend at UFC 323, Dvalishvili tries the fourth defense of his 135-pound championship, as he appears to be the only UFC champion to do so in twelve months. He will perform it together with Petr Yan.

In an interview with CBS Sports before the fight, Daniel Cormier revealed the one reason why ‘The Machine’ hates cutting weight. ‘DC’ revealed that the Georgian will completely cut off carbohydrates and water from Wednesday in an attempt to lose weight until he hits the scales on Friday.

Fighting consistently and losing weight over and over again in such a short period of time can take its toll on fighters, as fans saw with Alex Pereira. However, the MMA community will have to wait until this weekend to see if the same thing will happen to Dvalishvili.

Cormier told CBS Sports:

“I think some of these people who are questioning his ability to do this multiple times are looking at this as the problem. Because Merab is also cutting weight the old fashioned way… This is insane. He’s not doing it the way UFC PI wants him to do it… He’s actually only cutting back in fight week.”

He also added:

“Then, if he starts to like Wednesday, he completely cuts himself off from any hydration, any food. So he essentially starves himself Wednesday through Friday to put on weight, and then he tries to recover before he goes in.” octagon. That’s why he hates the weight cut so much, because he knows he’s pretty much done taking it all in from yesterday before he steps on that scale on Friday. That is the danger for a man like Merab.”

“It’s never easy. It’s always tough. It’s a mental game. Wednesday I felt worse, but today I feel good. I’ll be fine.”
