It is difficult to imagine that the nets as an organization do something clear than the Lakers.

D’Angelo Russell feels different.

The current Mavericks Guard took a shot in the Lakers’ Culture during his early years with the team while praising how much his time in Brooklyn was him as a player whose maturity was questioned in his career.

Russell spent two stints with the Lakers, the first after he was set second in 2015 by the team. He only lasted two years, in which Los Angeles went a combined 45-99 under coaches Byron Scott and Luke Walton, before he was traded to the nets for Kyle Kuzma and Brook Lopez.

He seemed to blame his lack of success during those seasons to the Lakers who did not teach him what it meant to be a professional.

“The organization of Brooklyn is different,” said Russell, spoke with Dwyane Wade in the WY network on Tuesday. “It’s different from any other. The performance, team, coach – everything about Brooklyn is different from what you would expect. And I have been in the competition where I came from the Lakers, where the structure is not the same.”

The former star of Montverde admitted that he approached the game – when he was 19 and 20 years old – in a way that was casual. That changed when he arrived at the nets and played two seasons under coach Kenny Atkinson.

Russell made his only All-Star team in Brooklyn during the 2018-19 season when he had an average of 21.1 points and seven assists. The nets went 42-40 and made the play-offs for the first time since 2014-15.

“Then I came to Brooklyn, where it is all structure, and it taught me how to be a professional,” said Russell, emphasized the word professional. “I always approached the game to where I was casual, and I felt that I could just overflow. They teached me how to be a professional, how to sleep, how to eat, how to recover.”

He is about to start his 11th season in the competition, with second stints with the nets and Lakers.

Russell signed a two -year contract of $ 11.6 million with the Mavericks in the low season and joins a team with Anthony Davis and number 1 General Pick Cooper Flagg.

“That’s why I still play to this day,” he said about his time with the nets. “I am not a man who is athletic, I had to take care of my body, I had to recover, I had to eat the best way. I couldn’t just show up. And that is what Brooklyn really taught me.”
