Dan Hooker already has a plan to defeat Ilia Topuria.
‘Hangman’ steps into the co-main event spotlight this Saturday in The Land Down Under as he takes on Benoit Saint-Denis at UFC 325.
A win over the ‘God of War’, who is already ranked fifth in the lightweight division, could put Hooker in line for a shot at reigning defending champion Ilia Topuria – once he clears some business with newly minted interim champion Justin Gaethje first.
During a recent interview with Submission radioHooker explained his very simple path to defeating Topuria.
Someone recently asked me in an interview and they said, ‘How do you beat Ilia Topuria now?’ And I just said, ‘Father Time.’ I said, ‘Give it enough time. You roll the dice long enough, and that’s it. No one is the best forever. It’s extremely short-lived.’
“But while these two guys are streaking and they’re in their physical prime and the momentum is there, that’s the fight we want to see.”
Dan Hooker seems to be getting back into the win column against Saint-Denis
But before Hooker can even consider a fight with Topuria, he must get through the ever-dangerous Saint-Denis.
In his last appearance, Hooker came up short against Arman Tsarukyan, the division’s top-ranked competitor, in November. Before that, ‘Hangman’ was on a three-fight win streak.
Meanwhile, Saint-Denis walks into UFC 325 having knocked out his last three opponents, including a stunning 16-second knockout of Beneil Dariush late last year.
