Dan Burn wants Newcastle United to make it five home wins in a row BUT also improve their away form

Dan Burn has spoken before Newcastle United take on Athletic Bilbao.

United hopes for nine points from the first four Champions League matches.

Dan Burn is also looking to build on Sunday’s poor performance and result at West Ham.

While Newcastle United have won their last four home games in all competitions, this is a very different story to St James’ Park.

The only away win so far this season was in the Champions League, a brilliant and resounding 4-0 away match against Union SG.

Dan Burn speaking after Sunday’s defeat at West Ham and ahead of the clash with Athletic Bilbao at St James’ Park, four home wins in a row for NUFC but struggling to win away:

“It comes down to mentality.

“The manager will look at that and I’m sure he will come up with a plan on what we can do better.

“How we can win games, probably be a little uglier with things.

“A few years ago we were known for…I won’t say the word, but ‘something homely’…

“When you leave home, it is sometimes important not to be defeated, to get points and to keep yourself ticking over.

“As long as you win your home games and don’t get beaten, it’s better, but we didn’t do that well enough.

“The first year we played in the Champions League we were more of an underdog, teams probably didn’t respect us as much as they should.

“We could become ugly and bullying teams and that was the way we did it, but as you progress and want to go further you move away from that because you bring in better quality players and play better football.

“But there’s always a place for that in the game.

“Arsenal are quite good at that, but that’s the way it is [also] play very good football and are at the top of the league.

“It’s important to mix things up, but sometimes, especially on Sundays [at West Ham]We have been a little too nice, while we could have been a little more compact and resilient.”
