Dallas general manager wants to keep Jason Robertson

The Dallas stars impressed at the trade deadline last year when they made the acquisition Mikko Rantanen of the Carolina Hurricanes. General Manager Dallas Jim Nillwho won his third consecutive Jim Gregory Award as GM of the Year, signed Rantaen to an eight-year extension with a maximum amount of $12 million.

Once that happened, rumors started about it Jason Robertson being kicked out of town because the Stars couldn’t make the money work under the salary cap. Nill, however, is adamant despite the fact that the conversations are slow that he wants to keep Robertson. That has been his goal.

NHL Rumors: Will Jason Robertson Take Less Than Mikko Rantanen?

Nil reiterated that he wanted to renew Robertsonafter we just signed Rantanen to that massive expansion, as he told Scott Oake on Hockey Night in Canada After Hours after the Stars fell 3-2 in a shootout to the Calgary Flames.

“Yes, that’s the plan. We’ll find a way to do it. We’ve always found a way. These are great players. It’s hard to find scorers, and that’s what I said when I talked to Jason last summer. He had a tough year the year before. He missed all of training camp and got off to a slow start. So that’s what we talked about this summer. Come on in, I want you to have a good year. It’s an Olympic year for him too. A lot of things are happening and he’s stepping up for us, and it’s great.”

Robertson is a restricted free agent for the Dallas Stars this summer. So Nill is not worried as he is controllable. On the season, Robertson has 28 points (13 goals and 15 assists) in 22 games. Over his last seven games, Robertson has 15 points (10 goals and five assists).

So expected Jim Nill needs to work his magic and lock up Robertson for the long haulas Dallas sees him as a core piece moving forward.

There will be no transactions because the rankings are so tight

With the standings in the Eastern Conference so tight and no team truly left out, you can’t expect much in the way of moves from the Buffalo Sabres, as Fourth Period’s Dave Pagnotta told Scott Laughlin and Gord Stellick on Sirius XM NHL Network Monday morning when asked about the trade market and Buffalo.

NHL Rumors: The Latest on Artemi Panarin and Alex Tuch

Dave Pagnotta: “Like you said, I mean, it’s so tight in the East right now. I mean, Toronto’s last and they’re, what, four points out of a playoff spot? The Sabers and the (New York) Rangers were also tied at 22. Three points ahead. Everything’s so tight right now. So there’s a level of that, no one’s out there. No one feels like they’re out, even though the sky might be falling in some markets. Hi, they get a win the next day, it’s like, oh, you know what? Maybe this isn’t so bad.

So no one feels like they haven’t quite figured it out yet. And that’s why there’s so much going on in Buffalo Alex Tuk, and are they going to sign him? Are they going to try to move him, and what’s going to happen? It’s still so early in the season for the Sabers, here at the quarter mark, that they still want to see what they got. Can they go running? Can they put things together? Can they build on what UPL and (Tage) Thompson are doing and so on?”
