Cunha’s second-half goal earned Manchester United a point at Leeds on Sunday, with the Brazilian sending in the equalizer just three minutes after Brendan Aaronson’s opener for the home side.
It was an entertaining encounter between the northern rivals, both of whom fought bravely but struggled to create clear-cut chances.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin came closest to breaking the deadlock in the first period when a header flashed off the post. At the other end, Leny Yoro forced a fine save from Lucas Perri in the Leeds goal.
Aaronson’s opener threatened to derail a depleted Manchester United team, but a quick substitution from Ruben Amorim brought the teams level. As a substitute, Joshua Zirkzee played in Cunha, who finished past Perri.
Neither side could find a winner as the points were shared, a result that Cunha said was positive for his side.
“After the match against Wolves it was a bit sad for us. Of course we want to win every match and then have a great chance to get into the top four,” Cunha said in conversation with TNT Sports:
“We have to keep going. After the draw it is not easy to get here. We know how big this match is for everyone. But it is good to get a point here.”
“It was so difficult. We know what to expect, of course they try to do everything they can to win. It’s difficult, a lot physical, but when we wear this shirt we have to give everything every game, and today was no different.”
