CT: Muad’dib looks for second consecutive row

Millionaire Muad’dib will aim for his second consecutive victory – and 19th victory overall – with Thursday’s $36,200 allowance for state-bred horses at the Charles Town Races. The seven-furlong contest is considered the eighth race and tops a stacked card with five allowances and two first special weight races.

Muad’dib, a 9-year-old gray gelding by Fiber Sonde, has been a regular at Charles Town since 2020, collecting 18 wins from 40 local starts and earning more than $1.12 million. Trained by Jeff Runco for David Raim, Muad’dib returned to the winner’s circle on January 9 when he broke away from the pace and was awarded a 6 ½ furlong/optional claimer allowance, indicating he may be primed for another productive campaign in 2026.
He will again look to take advantage of a contested pace under 7-pound student Warren Ebow, III, who has the return mount.
No Change looms as perhaps the biggest threat to Muad’dib, bringing a formidable resume of its own to the said fee. The 8-year-old gelding has won 19 of 47 career starts, all at Charles Town, and has more than $635,000 to his name as he repeatedly proved his affinity for seven furlongs, where he recorded 13 wins.
Trained by Cynthia McKee, No Change is at his best when he can settle in early and ignite a sustained run, a style that has produced multiple stakes and compensation scores against peers. Although he finished on a sloppy track on his debut in 2026, his strong 2025 campaign – which included a score in the WVBC Onion Juice – suggests he remains a major force, especially if the pace up front develops as expected.
Sunday Diaz, Jr. will do the honors.
Up front, I might be the director they all have to catch, as he seems to be the most likely speed controller in the field. The lightly raced four-year-old has won seven of 18 career starts, including five victories during a productive 2025 campaign, and has consistently shown the ability to slow or pick up the pace before getting started.
If I’m the director and can create an unchallenged rhythm through the opening fractions, it could be difficult for the Cynthia McKee trainee to land Charles Town’s demanding sprint configuration.
Others to watch include the half-million dollar Social Chic, who is making his first start in trainer Anthony Farrior’s barn; You think that’s funny, who led most of the way before finishing second to Muad’dib in last; and Nocashrefunds for Joanna Boggs, a seven-time winner who is competing in good form.
The competitive field is rounded out with Late in the Game and Paymengold. With experience, pace and local affinity spread across the line-up, Thursday’s eighth promises a fitting showcase for one of the most reliable fee divisions on the Charles Town circuit.
