Great Britain made it two wins from three at the Men’s Under-20 World Championship, Division II Group A in Bucharest with a 5-2 victory over Croatia.
Netminder Ben Clarke-Leach made 26 saves as GB moved to six points after a 4-3 win over Spain on the opening day.
A deflected feed from behind the net by Brynley Capps fell to Jack Clarke, who went top-of-the-line to put GB ahead (08:17).
Strong work on the boards by Kyle Carruth freed up Bailey Yates to step out on the right wing and shoot past Niksa Slade (36:44).
Croatia scored either side of the second break to level the match at two when Bruno Zovko scored on a goal (39:38) and Roko Gorsic went coast to coast to score short-handed (46:26).
GB regained the lead within two minutes when Louie Kynaston’s shot was saved, but Dylan Lipsey grabbed the rebound (48:16).
Clarke’s shot found the path of Capps to score on the powerplay from the slot, as GB took a crucial two-goal advantage with just under 10 minutes remaining (50:25).
GB took a late penalty so Croatia were playing six on four when they lifted the netminder for the extra skater and within seconds Ricards Misins won the race for a loose puck to score short-handed into an empty net (57:15).
GB are back in action again tomorrow against Romania and the clash is at 7.30pm (5.30pm GMT).
