The Red Devils have struggled to challenge for the biggest trophies since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 and endured their worst Premier League campaign last season, finishing 14th in the table.
United also lost the UEFA Europa League final to Spurs, meaning they missed out on European football this season.
Cristiano Ronaldo expresses ‘sad’ verdict on Man Utd
Ronaldo, who has scored 145 goals in 346 appearances for the club, says he still loves United despite a bitter falling out that resulted in his departure in 2023, following an interview with Piers Morgan in which he criticized the hierarchy, then manager Erik ten Hag and the club’s facilities.
“I am sad because the club is one of the most important clubs in the world – and a club that I still have in my heart – for the obvious reasons that you have to follow with intelligent people, smart people, to create a foundation for the future as Manchester United,” he told Piers Morgan Uncensored on Tuesday.
“So many years ago, Nicky Butt, Gary Neville, Roy Keane, [David] Beckham, they became great players, but they had youth.
“So Manchester United has no structure at the moment. I hope this changes in the current future because the potential of the club is great. It is one of the most important clubs of the century.”

Cristiano Ronaldo: Ruben Amorim cannot perform miracles
After a turbulent year in charge, Amorim has finally seen an improvement in results, helping the team to three consecutive wins in the Premier League before drawing against Nottingham Forest last weekend.
However, Ronaldo is not convinced that United have made any progress and warns that the manager alone cannot bring back the glory days.
‘He is [Amorim] he’s doing his best,” he said. ‘What are you going to do? Miracles? Miracles are impossible. We say in Portugal: miracles only exist in Fatima.
“You’re not going to do miracles. Even the players. Manchester United has good players, but some of them don’t have the idea: what is Manchester United.”
‘They have no structure… but they are still in my heart. I love that club.’
Cristiano Ronaldo says Manchester United “must change” and gives his opinion on manager Ruben Amorim.

Ronaldo added: “Of course, because I was a player there. So many, many years ago I won the Champions League there.”
“I win the Ballon d’Or. I won twelve, thirteen, fourteen titles there. So, as I say, and I repeat, Manchester United is still in my heart; I love that club.”
“But we all have to be honest and look at ourselves and say, listen, they’re not on the right track, so they have to change. And it’s not just about the coach and the players in my opinion.”
