Maxime Cressy takes a break from the ATP tour, the 28-year-old shared this week on Instagram, referring to a persistent back injury.
Known for its Serve-And-Volley match, the former No. 31 has not played a match at Tour level in the PIF ATP ranking in the PIF ATP ranking since July and this season has only made a handful of performances on the ATP Challenger Tour.
“I just wanted to be honest and transparent: I decided to get away from the Tour for the time being to concentrate on restoring a constantly lower back injury,” ” Cressy wrote.
“Since 2023 I have had serious pain in the lower back, but I have played through it over and over again. Today it has reached a point where I can no longer compete in a whole game. I have devoted my whole life to getting the best tennis player I can be, I wanted it to be the best, but I know I have given my absolute best effort and I have the Vredede.”
The American lifted his first trophy at Tour level at the ATP 250 in Newport in 2022, the same season that he reached the fourth round of the Australian Open. Cressy reached three extra finals from 2022-23 while he enjoys the PIF ATP rankings for almost a full year in the top 50.
Cressy added: “I am grateful for the support and love that I received during my career, and for those who have stood next to me both on and outside the field.”
