Craig Overton decided to add more T20 success for Somerset

Craig Overton is determined to help Somerset add a new trophy during a era of remarkable consistency of White-Ball prior to a fifth consecutive appearance in the Vitality Blast Finals Day.

Somerset ended a long list of near-misses with T20 success in 2023 and succeeded it with a number two that was to Gloucestershire last year.

Overton is well aware of the earlier reputation of the club as bridesmaids, but after Royal London One-Day Cup Glory was supported in 2019 with a Finals Day Triumph in Edgbastone two years ago, the 31-year-old floating about their chances.

“We know it is a great period for us, but we clearly have that reputation from previous years of becoming bridesmaids,” Overton told the PA press office.

Special

“We wanted to put that right and we feel that we have done that kind of two trophies, but reaching more and more finals and final days, you want to win more and more.

“We are clearly in a very happy position that we come to this final and get the chance to win them is pretty special.

“There is a great feeling among the boys. We have been there in the last few years, did well in 2023 and not so good last year, but that is a kind of T20 cricket.

“We know that we have to pop up and do a performance to hopefully achieve two wins and to lift the trophy at the end of the day.”

Missing

A frustration for Somerset, in addition to the other three finalists, is the unavailability of England players and other international stars.

Somerset will be without Tom Banton for their semi-final with Lancashire, who miss Jos Butler against his former club because of the England’s T20 series with South Africa.

Lancashire is stimulated by the presence of James Anderson and he will perform in a fifth final day after he was able to overcome a recent fitness problem.

“Yes, it’s a while ago, but I’m just very enthusiastic,” Anderson said internal media.

“It’s always a great day. The reason I played for Lancashire this year is to try to win something, to try to do something special with the group.”

Hero

Somerset will strive to lean on a quarterfinals hero Sean Dickson, who leaves at the end of this season, but 71 is not on its way to beat Birmingham Bears last week and to win the man of the game in the 2023 victory over Essex.

Lancashire in England, Liam Livingstone, Blitzde has an unbeaten 85 to Down last Saturday and another former International helped to be eligible for Finals Day.

Ravi Bopara, who played 171 times for England, hit a sensational century of 46 balls to numb Surrey in the Kia Oval and make a seven-run success.

Northamptonshire from Darren Lehmann plays in the second semifinal against Hampshire, who will strive for a record-breaking fourth Vitality Blast title.

Hampshire will have the Australian duo Hilton Cartwright and Chris Lynn available after both half centures were hit in a 26-run victory over Durham last Friday, but Liam Dawson is gone in England.
