Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) has announced Nicholas Pooran as their new captain for the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025 season. Pooran takes over from Kieron Pollard, who led the team since 2019 and is now going aside to make a smooth change change possible.
Pooran is only the third captain in the history of TKR, after DJ Bravo and Pollard. Bravo, now the head coach of the team, captain 70 games with 43 victories, while Pollard led 67 games, won 39 and raised the team to their first title in 2020.
Pooran, who debuted for TKR in 2013, played 50 games and scored 1,112 runs with a success rate of 155.30.
“It means a lot to represent Trinbago Knight Riders,” said Pooran. “It is a privilege to lead this franchise. I want to give it my best and make as many correct decisions as I can. Pollard, Sunil Narine and Andre Russell are still there, and I can go to their experience. To lead them on the field – it means a lot to me.”
Pooran recently retired from the international cricket and friends to concentrate on T20 competitions. He had an impressive CPL season of 2024 and scored 504 points in 11 games.
Pollard said that leading TKR was special for six years. With Bravo as head coach, he thought it was the right time to hand over captain. He added that Pooran was taken care of for the role.
Venky Mysore, CEO of Knight Rider Sports, welcomed the transition and called it smooth and well planned. Bravo also emphasized that leadership changes had to be prepared in advance, as he had done when passing the captain to Pollard in 2019.
The stage is now set for Pooran to send TKR, supported by a mix of experienced stars and its own aggressive Batting style, because the team seems to chase more CPL -glory.
