On Tuesday, November 11, the Seattle Kraken hosted the Columbus Blue Jackets for their first game of the season. Both teams recently suffered losses: the Kraken lost to the Dallas Stars on Sunday and the Blue Jackets lost to the Edmonton Oilers the day before on Monday. However, it was the Blue Jackets who ended this game in the win column with one 2-1 win in the shootout above the Kraken.

As time expired in the first period, Jaden Schwartz sent the puck around the boards, where Jamie Oleksiak scooped it up. Oleksiak passed the ball to Ben Meyers in front of the net. He sent a drop pass to Ryan Winterton as he skated to the net. From the faceoff circle, Winterton took a shot to score the first goal of the game.

With three minutes left in the second period, Eeli Tolvanen took over for Jet Greaves’ trip. Less than a minute after the penalty, Ryan Lindgren joined him in the penalty area after checking on Adam Fantilli. With odds of 5 to 3, the Blue Jackets went to work. All the pressure was on Eeli Tolvanen, who scored to keep the Kraken’s chances alive. Monahan’s shot was saved by Murray and the shootout went to round 4.

Kaapo Kakko’s shot was again saved by Greaves. Charlie Coyle was next for Columbus, sending the puck into the top corner of the net to seal the win for the Blue Jackets.
