Courtney turns her hand to racing armor – quickly success

The young Victorian armor racing coach Courtney Harris recently celebrated her first winner with only her second starter – but for now her attention is firmly on her other sporting passion.

“I currently have three eventing horses and it is a very busy time from now until the end of October, so our racing plans for our Pacer Cozmo will have to fit in the vicinity of eventing,” Harris said.

“There was a large equestrian weekend in Werebree a great time ago and now we are looking forward to the next eventing competition in the Yarra Valley.”

But cheering home cozmo (Vincent) To the victory in Bendendo on 10 September was still a sensation.

The five -year -old mare, perfectly powered by former local Reinsman Leigh Sutton, called home with 16 meters in the $ 6000 Bendendo Ski Boat Center 4YO and Ouder Maiden Tempo.

“I am still fairly new in it because I only received the license from my trainer a few months ago and I am the kind of person who learns to look,” Harris said.

“We thought she was a good chance when she made her debut last month. She led but she kept a lot of busy, and the lead time was very fast – it was much too fast for her and she was tired,” she said.

“We left for the tests in Wangaratta and we were satisfied with her and we have now learned that she is better if we don’t burn the gate.

“She is only a small horse, but she is strong and she can be very heavy with the right run.”

Cozmo was able to stand in line on Thursday (25 September) for her next start at Kilmore, but that is decided – and depending on event obligations!

Harris said that her partner bought Daniel Jack Cozmo from the yearling sales.

“We are located at the Weidenbach family in Wahring, near Shepparton, and we appreciate all their support. They have a beautiful site with great facilities for all horses – and there is an arena where I spend a lot of time!” she said.

“I will just keep chipping and my old dream is to reach the highest level with the event. I would compare it to preparing a horse for a group in that you select suitable run -up events to get a chance in the larger one.”

Harris said she was a teenager when she first participated in eventing.

“I was probably a 15-year-old, which is much later than most. I always nagged my mother to get a horse and now mother is my biggest supporter,” she said.

“We originally came from Queensland, we moved to the Hunter Valley region because there was more event and it didn’t bring so much travel.

“But we still did a nine-hour trip to compete in Albury on an opportunity, and then there was a three-day Adelaide event another time.”

Harris moved to Victoria in February, making the competition a lot central.

“Our busiest time with eventing is March to June. I often tell Daniel that he has become my number one eventing assistant,” she laughed.

“Give me an event horse at any time at any time – but I also enjoy the Standard Breds!”
