Could Dodgers Bring Back Cody Bellinger in Free Agency? MLB Insider speaks possibility

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a number of questions to answer in free agency this winter, perhaps the most important of which is their hole in left field.

Michael Conforto played the majority of games in left field for the Dodgers in 2025, but had a hugely disappointing season after LA signed him to a one-year contract worth $17 million. Jon Heyman of the New York Post believes the Dodgers can look to bring back former MVP Cody Bellinger to round out their outfield.

“He would fit because their outfield is the least of their strengths, and some Dodgers people like him,” Heyman wrote. “He has turned things around since the few years of offensive struggles after his MVP season in LA”

Bellinger spent the first six seasons of his MLB career with the Dodgers, winning both the NL MVP and Rookie of the Year during his tenure in LA. He played in 745 games for the Dodgers, hitting 152 home runs and posting an .819 OPS.

Despite his generally stellar numbers in Los Angeles, Bellinger fell into something of a slump during his final two seasons with the Dodgers, failing to reach league average and 20 home runs in both 2021 and 2022. The Dodgers non-tendered him after 2022, and he joined the Chicago Cubs on a three-year deal this offseason.

Since leaving Dodger Stadium, Bellinger has bounced back and returned as a solid Major League player. He hit 44 home runs with the Cubs over two seasons, and continued to rip the ball with the New York Yankees after the Cubs traded him before 2025.

Bellinger has opted out of an extra year with the Yankees and will be a free agent again this season. The Dodgers have a huge opportunity to bring a star back to Dodger Stadium, and that could very well happen this offseason.

Before then, though, they’ll have to focus on surviving in the World Series as they face a 3-2 deficit heading to Toronto for Game 6. The Dodgers look to stay alive behind Yoshinobu Yamamoto in Game 6, which starts Friday, October 31 at 5:00 PM PT.
