Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday (January 31, 2026) launched a blistering attack on the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government, accusing it of “giving shelter to infiltrators”, institutionalizing corruption and deliberately obstructing border security measures for electoral gain.

Speaking at a BJP workers’ meeting at Barrackpore in North 24 Parganas, Mr Shah also claimed that the TMC government will “definitely leave” in the upcoming Assembly elections.

He said the formation of a BJP government in West Bengal was not only crucial for the state but also for national security.

“The manner in which infiltration is taking place in West Bengal has become a security problem for the entire country. Even after court orders, the TMC government is not giving land to the BSF for border fencing as infiltrators are its vote bank,” Mr Shah alleged.

He alleged that the government and police in the state were not stopping illegal migrants, who were being sent across the country with fake documents.

Referring to the recent fire incident at a momo factory in Anandapur, near Kolkata, Mr Shah claimed that it was “not an accident but the result of the corruption of the Mamata Banerjee government”.

He wondered why the factory owners had not yet been arrested and wondered if their “proximity” to the ruling party was the reason. “Has the government in Bengal completely ceased to exist?” asked the Minister of the Interior.

Mr Shah also accused the TMC of threatening the Matua and Namasudra communities, assuring them that they had “nothing to fear” and that “no one can touch your votes”.

He alleged that corruption had been institutionalized in the state and challenged Ms Banerjee to prove her seriousness about the menace by denying tickets to “tainted ministers” in the Assembly elections. He also predicted that the BJP would get more than 50% votes and a huge majority.

Mr Shah also accused the TMC of opposing a discussion on Vande Mataram in Parliament to appease infiltrators, and called on voters to “uproot” the Trinamool Congress regime and establish a “government of patriots and nationalists” in Bengal.
