Cooper Flagg Praise unanimously in Rookie of the Year Race

Flagg arrives with historical hype

Cooper Flagg has been introduced the NBA with enormous expectations. The Rookie of Dallas Mavericks was set up after a striking first -year year at Duke. He only became the fourth first -year student in the history that the National Player of the Year Award won and cemented himself as the top perspective in the design class 2025.

The Mavericks were lucky to land him. They only had a 1.8% chance of number 1 pick, but managed to jump first. That happiness gave them a player who is already seen as the favorite for Rookie of the Year.

Coaches and scouts expect big things

Tim Bontemps from ESPN recently interviewed 20 coaches, managers and scouts. Nineteen of them selected Flagg as a favorite to win Rookie of the year. The only other mood went to Flagg’s Duke teammate, Knueppel, now with the Charlotte Hornets.

“It is not surprising that Flagg ran away from the field as one of the most expected prospects to get to the NBA in the recent memory, possibly only haunting Wembanyama in that category,” wrote Bontemps.

A Western Conference Assistant coach explained his only vote for Knueppel: “He will be in a bad team, has the ball in his hands and set up figures.”

Projected best player in his class

Bontemps also asked which Rookie will be the best player in five years. Flagg again dominated the poll and earned 18 out of 20 votes. Only Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper each received one voice.

“Like a Point Guard lands with Victor, there is a clear path to success,” said a Western conference Explorer about Harper. “If Cooper went to a bad team, he would be the obvious answer. But his landing place could let him develop differently.”

Ready to lead early

The role of Flagg will be great from the start. With Kyrie Irving Sidelined, Dallas has to play and flagg often process the ball. He showed his potential in Summer League and scored 31 points against the San Antonio Spurs in just his second game.

The Mavericks are built around veterans such as Irving, Anthony Davis and Klay Thompson, but their future clearly belongs to Flagg. As those stars get older, the Rookie striker is ready to grow in the franchise cornerstone that Dallas has searched.
