Vegas Golden Knights star Jack Eichel makes it clear that he does not look at the free agent market of next summer, he wants to stay in Sin City. After hearing Eichel during the NHL Player Media Tour on Wednesday, Greg Wysnski of ESPN said that the center is aimed at securing a “contract jackpot” with the organization instead of exploring an unlimited free agency.
“I love the organization. I like to live here. I love the boys in the room. I love the people in the city. I love the fans,” Eichel told ESPN. “It’s a great place to live. It’s a great place to play hockey. There are many things to love, and I’m just very happy here.”
Eichel, 28, starts in the last year of the eight -year -old deal of $ 80 million that he signed with the Buffalo Sabres in 2017. He was traded on the Golden Knights in a very public and somewhat dramatic deal. He preferred Vegas because that situation unfolded and he experienced medical problems with the Sabres. He immediately fit like a glove. He led the Golden Knights in last season scoring with 94 points in 77 games and rank 16th in points per game in the NHL in the past three seasons.
He also won a Stanley Cup with the team after he had never sniffed the play -offs as a member of the Sabres.
Kelly McCrimmon, general manager of Vegas, has noted that it is a priority to again sign Eichel, which is one of the top of a list of some huge names that are eligible for a free agency on 1 July. “He is one of the best guys in the NHL. He has a great character, great leadership. That will be a critical piece of company for us,” says McCrimmon.
What it will cost to keep it, it is very intriguing this week. While McDavid tries to find out his contract situation with the Edmonton Oilers, Kirill Kaprizov reportedly rejected $ 16 million per season with the Minnesota Wild. If it is true, Kaprizov would ask Eichel’s number quite a bit.
Conversations between Eichel, Pat Brisson, and the Golden Knights are still in the early stages, but the center is optimistic about progress. “I would say it’s trending. For me it’s more about concentrating on preparing for the season,” he said.
