With Himika out, Baffert had two contestants in Consistent and Nima . Both had 1-of-1 records with jockey Juan Hernandez aboard. Hernandez opted for Nimah, who left as 2-5 favorite in the Starlet over 5-2 Consequent, ridden by Kazushi Kimura.
Cashed, placed against a California-bred company, led much of the way, with Nimah not far behind. Consistently ran in third place behind Cashed’s fractions of :23.52, :48.01 and 1:12.46.
“She had already done a two-turn race and I was confident in that,” Kimura said. “So when I started riding from the three-eighths, she kept responding and made a big, nice stride.”
As Cashed and Nimah fought through the stretch and made some contact, Consequent stood outside them. It took Consequent some effort to get around, but eventually she reached the wire well ahead in 1:44.03. Cashed finished second, 4 lengths above Nimah, who was followed by Cosmic heat And Jewlz .
The stewards placed the board with a question and looked at the contact between Cashed and Nimah during the course. But they didn’t change the order of arrival.
“That looked pretty good, she definitely needed all that stretch,” Baffert assistant coach Mike Marlow said. “She’s still quite green. She was difficult to saddle, but she’s going to figure it out. She’s going to be good and it looks like more distance will be even better for her.”
The Starlet is part of the Road to the Kentucky Oaks and offers 2026 Kentucky Oaks (G1) qualifying points to the top five finishers on a scale of 10-5-3-2-1.
Baffert didn’t unveil Consequence of Nimah until the fall Sea meeting. As a result, her first November 14 at a mile broke by half a length, while Nimah scored by 1 3/4 lengths at 6 1/2 furlongs on November 23.
