Signing the dynamic midfielders Ruben Amorim desires is reportedly at the top of INEOS’ plans for 2026.

As promising as United’s midfield is proving to be, most agree that with a reliable core of mobile, progressive players they could be significantly better.

Now that it’s clear that United are looking for athletic midfielders, links to such profiles continue to surface.

One of the most persistent names is Atletico Madrid’s Conor Gallagher.

Gallagher fits perfectly into Amorim’s tactical game. He is a dynamic, all-round box-to-box midfielder known for his high work rate, tenacity and goals in the penalty area.

He is exactly the kind of player who can inject new intensity into United’s engine room.

It is worth recalling that United approached Atleti towards the end of the summer window with a loan offer for the former Chelsea man. But the offer was ultimately rejected.

Yet United have retained that interest. The Peoples Person recently carried a report from Spain claiming: “United are considering making a bid of around €60 million to convince Atletico.”

Of course, United fans will have been looking forward to the club entering negotiations with La Liga for the Englishman.

Fabrizio Romano drops a Gallagher bomb

However, Fabrizio Romano has now released a contradictory update.

Speaking of his YouTube Channel, the Italian transfer guru, dismissed the idea that United would push for a permanent deal for Gallagher in January.

Instead he claimed: “Conor Gallagher is an option for Manchester United on loan in January.”

Romano then highlighted the only hurdle to that move:
“Manchester United were seriously interested last summer, but every step depends on Atletico Madrid.”

United’s realistic winter transfer options

Romano made these comments as he analyzed United’s midfield options for the coming period.

He noted that since the moves for Angelo Stiller, Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton likely won’t be cheap, it’s unrealistic to expect any of them to arrive in January.

He also dismissed the ties to Lucas Paqueta, labeling them as “way off the mark.”

In contrast, a loan spell for Gallagher seems much more feasible for him, provided Diego Simeone agrees to let the 25-year-old leave.

So far this season, Gallagher has largely been used as a squad player, with more cameo appearances than starts.

hope for the World Cup

His difficult situation has already cost him an England call-up in the last two matches. If he wants to return to the Three Lions group, something has to be done; he needs regular minutes.

Should Atleti fail to offer him consistent playing time, it may be worth it for Gallagher to submit a transfer request, a move that could help the Wanda Metropolitano hierarchy approve a loan in January.

At United, Gallagher, who Mauricio Pochettino once described as “priceless”could be the perfect alternative to Casemiro. Be the ideal midfield alternative that Galatasaray affiliate Manuel Ugarte struggles to be.
