Powers turned to the transfer portal and brought in 24-year-old senior goalkeeper Connor Hasley.

Powers says it is the deepest they have had in the goal position and said that he regards both Hasley and first -year student Samuel Urban as number one goalkeepers in the NCAA.

Now Hasley arrives in Tempe with a reputation to maintain and a big season opener looms up. The net of the Sun Devils finally has a new face and the spotlight follows.

Powers, who arrives his 18th season as head coach of Asu Hockey, has often used the hashtag on social media, #BethetraditionAn expression he has said since the early centuries of Sun Devil Hockey.

“There is only so much that you can do as a coach, you can guide the ship and clearly set the standard, but the end of the day, the players are the ones who have to live on it,” said Powers.

“If you have such good people, bought in what we do to bring the program to the next level and to win championships, things make things a lot easier for us.”

It is also an important reason why Hasley chose to come to Asu. With a clear need between the pipes, it was made a match in heaven for both parties.

‘From when coach [Powers] I spoke to me for the first time, I fell in love with it from the first moment he spoke to me, I thought: “I think this is where I’m going,” Hasley said. “I made the right choice. I love it.”

Hasley joked and said another reason that he came to Asu was because of the weather, but states that there is something in the air to be a Sun Devil, which was another reason he came to Tempe.

“The weather is a big plus, but certainly the culture, like everyone else in the neighborhood, there is a kind of feeling in the air that is proud to be a solar face,” Hasley said.

Hasley, who becomes 25 by the time the calendar browses to the second semester, seems to take the reins in the net and first kick things against Number-Five-ranged Penn State.

First Start for Big Stage Wait for Hasley

ASU released student tickets for his home opener against Penn State at 9 am on Monday (September 29) and within a few hours all tickets were sold out. It does not come as a surprise, given the top contact choice for the NHL concept of 2026, first -year winger Gavin McKenna, emphasizes a talented Nittany Lions team.
