Winnipeg continued that lead into the first intermission. Montreal answered back near the 30-minute mark on the power play. Nick Suzuki sent the puck low along the wall to Cole Caufield, who quickly sent it to Juraj Slafkovsky at the bottom of the right circle. He defeated Eric Comrie for his ninth of the year.
It’s as perfect as this, but accidentally called her perfect instead of the 2022 first overall pick
Not long after, the Jets’ top line turned the Canadiens into their own goal, and the pressure ultimately paid off. Gabriel Vilardi, parked behind the net, moved the puck to the left faceoff spot, where Connor knocked it off the post and in for his 14th.
Montreal wasn’t interested in going into the second intermission with a goal, and they tied it at 14:03 of the period. Alexandre Texier rammed the puck around the boards and Josh Morrissey went to retrieve it in the right corner. Ivan Demidov got ahead of him and centered a pass to Oliver Kapanen in the slot, and the Swede buried it past Comrie.
What a pass, what a shot, what a celebration, what a goal What a pass, what a shot, what a celly, what a goal
There were no goals in the third period, but plenty of opportunities for Montreal to take the lead, sending the game to overtime. Both teams created plenty of odd-man rushes, along with some broken sticks, but just like in the third, both goalies closed the door.
In the shootout, Montreal scored on their first try thanks to Cole Caufield, and that remained the only goal, giving the Canadiens two points while Winnipeg settled for one. Comrie was excellent for the Jets, making 29 saves, many on high-danger opportunities.
Winnipeg now returns home Friday for a rematch with the Buffalo Sabers at the Canada Life Centre. Puck drop is at 6pm CST on TSN3.
