Taylor dominates the final
Junior starter Seth Taylor delivered a commanding performance Sunday afternoon to anchor the Comets’ 3-2 win. Taylor pitched 6.2 innings, giving up just one run on four hits and two walks, while striking out eight.
Through 108 pitches, Taylor’s only blemish was a solo home run given to Jake Willerup in the top of the second inning. The Comets’ lineup responded in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game and ultimately provided enough run support to secure the win.
Bullpen slams the door
Christian Robb came in from the pen to navigate the final 2.1 innings. Robb allowed one run on two hits and one walk, recording two strikeouts over 35 pitches, earning his first save of the season.
Led by pitching coach Derek Holland, the UTD staff continues to show poise in high-leverage situations. The Comets are now 10-4 overall with head coach Travis Graves‘ debut season.
Powerful performance on the plate
Although the Comets’ offense was limited to seven hits and four walks, the lineup showed the relentless approach that has defined their early-season success.
Korson Hastings: The first baseman hit the team’s only extra-base hit of the game.
Kole Kinnison: The third baseman went 1-for-3 with an RBI.
Alex Molenaar: The design hitter finished 1-for-4 with an RBI.
Trent McCown and Nico Fernandez: Both the right fielder and catcher added singles to the total.
