HAMILTON – The Raiders trailed the Class of 1965 Arena in the third period on Senior Day, but Madeline Palumbo tied up, Alexia Aubin scored the overtime winner, and the Raiders defeated RPI 2–1 to extend their winning streak to five seasons.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Colgate had most of its chances in the opening minutes of Saturday’s Senior Day match, but couldn’t get on the board early. As the period progressed, the Raiders continued to register shots on goal and looked poised to score, but RPI’s Reese Keating saved the first ten shots she faced.

Despite a power play opportunity, Colgate still couldn’t open the scoring and the first period would end 0-0.

As the second period began, the Raiders continued to apply pressure and had an extreme advantage in shots on goal over the Engineers. But even with another power play opportunity, Colgate couldn’t find the back of the net as the period ended.

In a complete momentum shift, RPI took a shocking lead at 19:18 when Sabrina Beaudoin, assisted by Charlotte Wensley and Aylah Cioffi, defeated Brooke Davis and made it 1-0 for the Engineers. The period would end with the Raiders trailing by one.

The third period started with the Raiders trailing 1-0 and RPI goaltender Keating continued her career day with 31 saves.

It took until their 36th shot on goal of the match, but Colgate finally got on the board at 7:32 when Madeline Palumboassisted by Avery Pickeringput a shot past Keating to make it 1-1.

Once again it would come down to the wire for the Raiders, as the teams entered the final two minutes of play still tied at one, and despite more pressure from the Colgate forwards, the game would go to overtime.

Early in the 3-on-3 period, Colgate continued their dominance, eventually taking home the win at 2:19 when Alexia Aubin scored on an assist from Palumbo to cap off a Senior Day win.

USA Union

HAMILTON – Colgate fell behind in the opening minute on Friday, but was ahead by two goals Alexis Petfordincluding a late winner, were enough to secure the Raiders’ 19th straight victory against Union College in the Class of 1965 Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Union immediately took the lead on Friday and were 1-0 up when Karianne Engelbert shot in from close range at 0:39, assisted by Megan Duplantie.

Playing from the back, Colgate was unable to apply much offensive pressure in the ensuing minutes as they tried to avoid a loss to Union, which would be their first in over 50 meetings.

As the opening period progressed, the Raiders began to take over, but were unable to capitalize despite a power play opportunity. That all changed at 4:16 PM, then Alexis Petfordassisted by Alexia Aubin And Emma Beauchamptied the game at one for the Raiders.

Despite a dominant performance and a late goal in the period, Colgate and Union even went to the first intermission at one o’clock.

The second period started with a number of big chances for Colgate, but more saves from Union goaltender Emma Rheaume prevented the Raiders from taking the lead. A power play by the Garnet Chargers quickly put the pressure on Colgate’s defense, but Farah Walker remained resilient in goal and kept the score level in a back-and-forth stretch.

Neither side found the back of the net in the waning minutes of the second period, and the match remained tied 1-1 heading into a critical final twenty minutes.

The final period started much the same as the second, with both teams unable to take the lead despite long chances, but a big five-minute penalty from Union’s Peyton O’Neill gave the Raiders the best chance to go in front. Still, Colgate couldn’t beat Rheaume in net, and the third period reached the halfway point without a goal to separate the teams.

With the minutes ticking by, it seemed unlikely that the Raiders could find a winner in regulation, but at 17:56 Petford scored her second goal of the match, putting Colgate up 2-1 on assists from Beauchamp and Aubin and giving the Raiders a huge late advantage.
