The match, held at Kaseya Center, the home arena of the NBA’s Miami Heat, was a scheduled eight-round boxing match. As the fight reached its later rounds, it became one-way traffic for the latter.
In the sixth round of the advertised eight, Anthony Joshua uncorked a right-handed jab to send Jake Paul to the canvas. For his troubles, “The Problem Child” had broken his jaw during the fight and had to undergo surgery this past weekend, which led to the Florida Boxing Commission imposing a mandatory suspension on him for the foreseeable future.

“Give me Canelo in ten days,” Paul wrote in an Instagram post this weekend. If Colby Covington’s comments are any indication, one can only hope that Jake Paul isn’t serious about fighting Canelo Alvarez.
Colby Covington dishes out pain in fiery YouTube comment
True to form, Colby Covington went to YouTube on Sunday to make comments about the fight between Paul and Joshua in a way that only he can. Spoiler alert: the man nicknamed “Chaos” didn’t hold back.
“Well, that wasn’t written!” Colby Covington began. “And if he did, Anthony Joshua never got the script!” Covington’s comments only went from there.
“This fight reminded me of that episode of Fool where Johnny Knoxville had a boxing match with Butterbean at the department store. People were watching to see if Jake was stupid enough to actually go through with getting mauled by a heavyweight boxer, and like Johnny Knoxville, Jake delivered an embarrassing statement. Fool fashion.”
Jake Paul staggered when the lights were brightest Friday
In the past, Jake Paul has battled opponents whose athletic peak occurred in his youth or, in the case of a highly publicized 2024 exhibition against Mike Tyson, before he was alive. By comparison, Anthony Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs) is still a quasar in boxing’s heavyweight ranks.
Ahead of Friday’s fight with Jake Paul (12-2, 7 KOs), Anthony Joshua’s career highlights include a gold medal-winning performance at superheavyweight at the 2012 London Summer Olympics and a reign as IBF and WBO heavyweight champion and as WBA superheavyweight champion. Returning to Colby Covington’s comments in the YouTube video, he referenced Paul’s previous work on cable television.
“Jake didn’t prove that he was really tough or a real boxer,” he noted. “He just proved he really is stupid! [I] I can’t believe people are actually betting on a Disney Channel kid to beat an Olympic gold medalist and world heavyweight champion. That whole show was a disgrace!”
To conclude his brief commentary, Colby Covington had this to say.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if Jake is done with cosplaying as a fighter for good now. Hang up the gloves for good, Jake! There are no shortcuts or anything [that] If they can ever give you an injection, you will become a real fighter!”
Colby Covington knocked it out of the park on commentary about Paul
All told, Covington’s comments were quick, clocking in at just 56 seconds in the video. Even though he spoke for less than a minute about Jake Paul’s loss to Anthony Joshua on Friday night, every last second counted.
In his comments on Sunday he got to the heart of the matter. Normally, when Colby Covington says this kind of message board stuff, his goal is simple: to rile up people who disagree with him.
This time, however, you’d be hard-pressed to find a single person who disagrees with his comments. He said everything that needed to be said and said it with haste. A few years ago, Jake Paul’s brother Logan fought Dillon Danis in a match that ended with Paul winning by disqualification. That match made a mockery of the sweet science of boxing.
Jake Paul’s fight against Anthony Joshua once again reminded us of what can happen when a boxing match turns into an afterthought. As someone who watches boxing regularly, in addition to a steady diet of MMA clashes, it’s hard not to side with Colby Covington here. Hopefully the circus will leave town when the calendar turns to January 1 at the end of next week.
