Colby Covington calls on Paddy Pimblett for White House card: ‘The fight would get the fans excited’

Colby Covington is interested in a fight with Paddy Pimblett.

Covington is looking to return to the White House map in June and his eyes are on an intriguing name. The former UFC interim welterweight champion believes a fight with Pimblett makes a lot of sense as he believes the Brit weighs more than him.

“One idea that could be presented is Paddy Pimblett,” Covington told talkSPORT.com. “(Pimblett) is a big guy, he’s lost a lot of weight. He probably weighs more than me walking around anyway, and might not want to continue at 155 pounds. So what’s the point of Paddy going back to lightweight? There are no big fights for him now that he lost to Gaethje. I want to present that idea to the UFC — that, ‘Hey, me and Paddy, a British guy and an American guy, on the White House lawn,’ would be great.”

“I don’t want to fight an American because there’s no point fighting an American in the American capital on America’s 250th birthday. Paddy Pimblett makes sense. He’s got a bowl cut. He’s got an accent. I think the fight would get the fans excited. And there’s certainly some unrest between us. He doesn’t like me, I don’t like him – so let’s lock ourselves in the cage and settle our differences.”

Colby Covington has a history with Paddy Pimblett

A fight between Colby Covington and Paddy Pimblett would be huge. But it’s unclear if Pimblett would have any desire to move up to welterweight to face Covington.

Still, Covington thinks a fight makes sense, especially after Pimblett’s performance against Justin Gaethje at UFC 324. Covington was unimpressed with Pimblett’s performance and hopes the fight can happen because of their history.

“Paddy Pimblett, for sure,” Covington replied when asked who he would pick to fight in the White House if it were his choice. “I ran into him in Miami, and I didn’t say anything to him. He started chirping at me and saying I’m a bitch. So let’s see if you can back that up, Paddy. You’ve said a lot of bad things about me. I want a respectable fight. I love the British fans. I’m grateful to be here on talkSPORT today – what a privilege.”

“I’ve been following your platform for a long time, and you’re doing great things in Britain. I love all the British fans; they’re the most passionate fans I’ve ever seen. When I went to the event at the O2 Arena, it was the loudest crowd I’ve ever heard in the world. I have a lot of love for the British fans and I want to put on a show for them. feeling energy and being able to electrify one of those arenas.”

Whether or not the UFC will book the Covington vs. Pimblett fight remains to be seen. But it’s clearly the fight Covington wants next.
