Coaching course launches a new generation of 29 coaches in South America < World ParaVolley

The Federacion Colombiana de Paravoleibol organized a successful World ParaVolley Level 1 Coaching Course, designed to strengthen the knowledge and improve the experiences of coaches in sitting volleyball.

The course took place from October 1 to 3, 2025 in Bogotá, Colombia, and brought together 29 participants from Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Mexico, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Peru and Chile, all united by the common goal of acquiring the technical and methodological foundation necessary to improve their coaching processes for sitting volleyball teams.

This was the first Level 1 course taught under World ParaVolley’s new teaching format, which consists of two parts:

  • Part A, pre-completed through self-paced virtual learning, and
  • Part B, a completely personal and practical part, which was held in Bogotá, Colombia.

During two days of intensive training, participants took part in practical sessions led by a team of World ParaVolley Coach Tutors: Lázaro Beltrán (USA), Fernando Guimarães (BRA) and Gini Tunney (COL). These experts shared their knowledge on important topics such as rules of the game, training planning (session components), learning technical skills and developing strategies to support the learning process of athletes new to sitting volleyball.

“The Level 1 course is an excellent basis for improving coaching skills in sitting volleyball,” said one of the participants. “I not only learned about the sport, but also about the importance of integration and adaptation in training.”

The course also emphasized collaboration between coaches, providing participants with space to share ideas and teaching approaches. This first phase of certification marks an important step towards strengthening the global development of sitting volleyball.

The event demonstrated the region’s strong commitment to the growth of para sports in the region.

Matt Rogers, team leader of WPV Coaching, expressed his delight at the impact of the course; “This is the first of five courses ending in 2025, the year we relaunched our coach training programme. It was great to hear about all the positive experiences and a huge thank you to our coaching tutors. The hosts have also done a fantastic job and I am very proud that 29 enthusiastic coaches will be returning to their region, able to help more people enjoy the thrill of sitting volleyball!”
