The well -bred Clotilde Wainwright (Majestic son) continued with her winning way when she won a Draft from the Diamond Creek/SBSR Southern Surge series on the Central Southland Raceway on Winton today.
Trainer driver Nathan Williamson established the four -year -old mare on seventh, early.
“She took it all early and was not in a hurry. She was quite wise by that early piece,” he said.
With 1700 meters to run, he moved Clotilde Wainwright to be parked, so that favorite Tarragindi was posted three wide with a round to run.
With 1200 meters to run, Williamson took his runner to the top. In a race of changing fortunes, the center of Orlando was put forward, but on the 500 Williamson Clotilde Wainwright took forward and opened a good buffer on the chasing couple led by Tarragindi.
The margin closed to a length and a quarter on the line with Clotilde Wainwright and Nathan Williamson who defeated his father Phil on Tarragindi.
Clotilde Wainwright Replay
“She has been improved steadily, but is still pretty inexperienced. I am happy with her progress and she is a really small mandriffen. She will probably go around for a little more practice next week and comes again for the final.”

Clotilde Wainwright is from Poppymalda who won eight of her twenty -five starts. Her co-owner Ross Jones says that Clotilde Wainwright is named after an old girlfriend, but I wasn’t sure if I should believe him.
Jones is known for the unusual names for horses such as Bill Bootit and Bob Barrelit.

In the meantime, Phil Williamson was happy with Tarragindi’s Run for second place.
“Yes, he has performed a powerful race and will continue to the final. The good thing is that he only starts ten meters and is not of twenty if he had won.”
