Clay Holmes looks like he no longer has gas.

Unfortunately for the Mets they have a lot to leave.

Another bad outing of Holmes threatened to ruin the big night of Pete Alonso, because Holmes was unable to end up with the fourth for a no-decision in a 13-5 Mets victory over Atlanta.

After Alonso had hit his franchise record 253rd Homer, Holmes gave back a 5-1 lead by coughing up four points in the fourth, with the bottom of the order caused much of the damage.

“He had a hard time landing the zinc shed for strikes. He missed a lot of arm,” said Carlos Mendoza. “We could have done better to acknowledge that he missed the poor side, perhaps the cutter, some of the other pitches, begin to use.”

Holmes allowed six hits, five earned points and ran five in just 3 ²/₃ innings.

With Frankie Montas already from the rotation, Mendoza does not seem to do the same with Holmes.

‘If you have one night [this]You will always start asking. But he comes from an outing with five innings, 75-pitch efficiency, “said Mendoza.” He continues to say that he is fine, the zinc shed is 96 [mph]The movement. He just had a hard time throwing that pitch for strikes. So we continue to check him, keep making sure that we don’t miss anything. He is a large part of this team. “

With Nolan McLean and Brandon Sproat in the wings, Holmes from the hill for angry from 39,748 was waiting. He struggled to an ERA of 5.10 with 27 walks and 33 strikeouts about his last 10 starts.

A reliever during his career for this season, Holmes had never thrown more than 70 innings and is now a maximum of 126, even after he did not come out of the fourth for the second time in three starts.

But he quoted pitch selection, not fatigue.

“The zinc shot had worked. I got a few ground balls and in those situations you just have to keep trusting it. I started to get a bit too nice and then I had to go into counts over the plate where I probably shouldn’t have done that,” said Holmes. “Looking back I just had to continue, and if they want to get in a row, do it. But I can’t put myself in bad counts, and it really helped them.

“In general, the zinc shed has been pretty good, just early attacks and trust. If I am good, I have had pretty good results. I have the same thing, if I help them and spends some walks, it feeds some momentum and the singles score just runs a run or a man on the basis.
