Ciryl Gane made a big change in his mindset after losing in the first round to Jon Jones for the heavyweight title.
Gane fought for the UFC’s undisputed heavyweight title for the second time, but came up short the second time. After the first round loss to Jones, Gane realized he had to make some big changes if he wanted to become a UFC champion when it’s all said and done.
“When I started the fight, I wasn’t there,” Gane said said on UFC 321 Countdown. “I was absent. And unfortunately I made a mistake and what’s done is done. After my loss to Jones, a lot of things have changed. Even more questions. ‘Why did you do that? Do you really want that?’ Now it is different than before. This was my mentality: revenge. This is exactly what we did for UFC Paris.”
As Ciryl Gane noted, he had to make a mental change, which seemed to work. Since the loss to Jones, he has won two fights in a row and now gets a third chance to become UFC champion when he takes on Tom Aspinall in the main event of UFC 321.

As Gane changed his mindset, he also changed his training to ensure he was as ready as possible.
Gane trained for this fight with high-level grapplers and strikers to help him prepare for Aspinall at UFC 321. With that, Gane is confident that he will be able to pull off the upset and become the heavyweight champion.
“I have done everything I can do for this title shot. With no regrets,” concluded Gane. “This is the most important thing. I want this like I’ve never wanted before. I don’t want to have any regrets, that’s why I did everything I could for this (fight). UFC 321, I’m winning this fight.”
