“Cinema has not become boundaries today Pan-Indian,” said Malayalam superster Mohanlal as he devoted the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest cinematic honor of India, to Indian Cinema and the public.

A day after he was appointed the recipient of the highest recognition in the country in the field of Cinema for 2023, the actor remembered that when he received the call from the Prime Minister’s office who informed him about the prize, he could not believe it.

“I thought it was a wild dream. I even asked them to repeat it,” Mohanlal told a press conference here on Sunday.

The superstar has assigned the recognition to the collective efforts of the film industry and the relentless support of viewers during his career.

“This is not only my prize it is from Indian cinema. I thank God for this honor. Every work must be done with honesty and dedication, and many people have helped me along the way. I share this recognition with them all,” said Mohanlal.

He described the field in which he works as his God.

“That is why I say that this prize is given by God.

Mohanlal, who completed 48 years in films, said he was lucky to work with some of the biggest names in the industry, and their blessings were behind this honor.

He also remembered that he visited his sick mother on Sunday morning to share the news. “She blessed me when she heard it. Her prayers are also behind this prize.” Mohanlal, who starts photographing on Monday for Drishyam 3, admitted that he initially found it difficult to believe the announcement.

The actor describes Cinema and both “magic” and a “circus” of which he has been a part for almost five decades, the actor emphasized the need for more good films. “I will remain part of that collective effort,” he said.

Mohanlal marked the opportunity by cutting a cake with colleagues, while friends and benefactors gathered to congratulate him.

Upon arrival in Kerala earlier in the day for the first time since the announcement of the prestigious prize, Mohanlal told reporters on Kochi Airport that he devoted the honor to the film industry.

“I wish more good things for the industry, and I hope that this recognition inspires the new generation,” he said with a smile.

Visibly moved, Mohanlal thanked God, the audience, his parents and the country.

“This is very lucky,” he said.

“I am grateful to everyone who is part of my journey.” Reminding his 48-year-old career, Mohanlal said: “I remember everyone who walked with me and sent my love and prayers to them on this occasion.”

He has credited the audience and the film industry of Malayalam to make him who he is today.
