Cindy McCain has refuted claims from Israeli government officials who were responsible for looting help trucks allowed by the Israeli army across the border to Gaza.
McCain, wife of the late Senator John McCain, leads the World Food Program of the United Nations.
In this role, the widow of one of the loudest neoconservative hawks in Washington, DC now finds more than 2 million people who are confronted with extensive food shortages in Gaza. Since the start of Israel’s war in Gaza, McCain has been a steadfast voice that insists on the Israeli government to allow more help in the besieged comic- and for his allies to put it under pressure to do this.
During her performance on CBSs Confronted with the nation On Sunday, McCain shot that Hamas disrupted the auxiliary distribution process. Israeli troops killed six armed people who are affiliated with Hamas near an auxiliary distribution point at the Kerem Shalom Crossing Point on Friday. Hamas officials said the individuals guarded against looters; Israeli officials claimed the opposite.
McCain told Margaret Brennan that the employees of her desk in Gaza had not seen any evidence of Hamas to plunder assistant cars.
“Have you seen evidence that it is Hamas that steals the food?” Asked Brennan.
“No,” replied McCain. “Not at all. Not in this round.”
“Listen, these people are desperate and they see a World Food Program truck coming in, and they run for it,” McCain continued. “This has nothing to do with Hamas or any form of organized crime, or something.”
McCain said her organization would continue to work to get food and fresh water to do in whatever capacity.
“This is a catastrophe,” she said.
The few trucks that are allowed in Gaza are “a drop in the bucket about what is needed,” said McCain.
“At the moment we have 500,000 people in Gaza who are extremely nutrient -uncertain and can be with famine if we don’t help them bring them back,” McCain said.
Israeli officials are reportedly considering a plan that would oblige a shift of non-food aid to international groups such as the United Nations, while food aid would only be distributed in the Gaza Strip by a newly established group supported by the United States.
A spokesperson for the Israeli defense groups told Reuters that “Hamas constantly mentions the guards of the looters or protectors” to mask the fact that they disrupt the aid process. “
Aid Trucks returned to Gaza last Monday after Israel had facilitated a blockade that prevented 100 percent of the help came in Gaza that had been present for months.
Trucks continue to enter a considerably lower rate than what UN experts and other organizations say that it is necessary to avert widespread famine, although figures differ between the Israeli government and auxiliary groups with regard to how many trucks step into it, which some claim that most are hijapized.
McCain seemed to claim on Sunday that the remaining trucks are not being hijacked, but are only swollen by desperate people before they can reach their intended destinations.
“After I was in a food rot a few years ago, I understand despair,” she said.
Trucks that won access to Gaza last Monday did this on the same day that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revealed that his government had plans to “control everyone” after the final round of air strikes.
“The fights are intense, and we are making progress. We will take control of the strip territory,” said Netanyahu in a video placed on his telegram canal. “We will not give up. But to succeed, we must act in a way that cannot be stopped.”
