Start -tarpers
Nick Martinez
Martinez has not been the same pitcher that he was last year – from May, his era has been more than 4.50 every month of the season. He has allowed 20 home runs, the most since his last season at the Rangers in 2017. However, if you get Martinez’s Dud from a match against the Brewers on August 15, he had a pretty solid month of August. In his other three starts he has only allowed four points in 15.1 innings with 11 strikeouts and only three free runs. If the Reds started to make a run on the play -offs in September, they need Martinez to be the pitcher who had an ERA of 0.83 and a 0.67 Whip in September.
This will be the second time of Martinez opposite the Dodgers in 2025. At the end of July he faced the Dodgers in Cincy and received a no-decision while allowed two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts to six innings.

Clayton Kershaw
Kershaw makes his 17th start of the season tonight. The 37-year-old started the season on the injured list, but came back in mid-May and has since been a consistent presence in the Dodgers rotation in 2025. Kershaw has had his ups and downs this season in terms of performance, but lately he has shown why he is a future Hall of Famer. In the month of August, Kershaw threw an ERA of 1.90 in 23.2 innings, with 13 strikeouts and only three walks. Since the All-Star Break he has a 2.76 ERA and a 1.13 Whip in 32.2 innings.
Kershaw has almost always thrown well against the Reds. It has been a while since he was last faced with the Reds (2023), but he threw seven scoreless innings with nine strikeouts in Great American Ball Park in his most recent outing against them. Kershaw also has a lifelong 2.10 ERA with 116.0 strikeouts in 103.0 innings and 15 starts against Cincinnati.
