The Cincinnati Reds have no game today, but that will not prevent them from moving a grid. This afternoon the team announced that they had received right-handed reliever Luis Mey to Triple-a Louisville. There was no accompanying step, although the team will almost certainly make one on Friday for the start of their series in Arizona against the Diamondbacks.
Luis Mey threw 23 games for the Cincinnati Reds this season. At that time he posted a 3.43 ERA in 21.0 innings. He gets a lot of ground balls. Those are good things.
But it’s not the whole story either. Mey gives a lot of free bases. He walked 17 batters and hit another. And he had half of his inherited runners score (four of the eight). In his last 14 games, he was unable to have a clean trip without giving up at least one Honunner, throwing 12.2 innings while giving up 15 hits, ran 14 batters, struck a better one and only threw nine battle.
At that time it is reliable, but not in a good way. He has struggled in many of his trips, but was able to walk away from them or got someone else in the bullpen to save him after he left the game.
The Reds, who are trying to make a run on the play -offs and are currently one game in the last place in the Wild Card Chase, are looking for someone they might be more confidence in.
