Cincinnati Reds gain pitching depth, sign Taylor Floyd – Redleg Nation

The Cincinnati Reds have added some pitching depth by signing right-handed pitcher Taylor Floyd. The now former Seattle Mariners minor league pitcher signed a minor league deal with Cincinnati this week.

In 2025, Taylor Floyd appeared in 48 games out of the bullpen, pitching 57.2 innings for Double-A Arkansas. This was his only season with Seattle, having previously pitched with the Minnesota Twins and Milwaukee Brewers farm systems. With Arkansas in 2025, he posted a 4.53 ERA, which was an increase from where it was at Double-A Wichita in 2024, where his ERA was 4.04.

Floyd is not a hard thrower and operates his fastball in the 88-90 MPH range. But he has a good slider and changeup to work with and gets a lot of swings and misses with his secondary stuff. After some major control issues in the first few seasons of the minor leagues, he has really cut down on walks over the last three years and had his best ever walk rate in 2025. If he can find some upside on his fastball, he could be an interesting guy to watch in the minors next year.

Last season his hit rate increased, as did his home run rate. His strikeout rate also increased – at least compared to 2024. Earlier in his career he was a great groundball player, but over the last three years he has been only slightly above average in generating grounders.

Cincinnati’s depth in the minor leagues took a pretty big hit in free agency earlier this month. Twenty players left the organization – mainly from the Double-A and Triple-A teams. Of the twenty players who opted for free agency, fifteen were pitchers. Tejay Antone has already re-signed with the team, but there are still a lot of roster spots left that the team will need to fill.
