Washington – Senate Line Leader Chuck Schumer, DN.Y., said that he maintains all Trump ministeries of Trump while he is looking for answers to the administration plan to accept a luxury Jet from Qatar to be used as Air Force One.
“In the light of the deeply disturbing news of a possible Air Force One, and the reports that the Attorney General has personally signed with this clearly unethical deal, I announce a selection of all political nominees of DOJ, until we get more answers,” said Schumer this in the SenaeTvloer.
The minority leader presented a list of questions he has for the Trump administration that he says must be answered before he lifts his grip on nominees.
“President Trump has told the American people that this is: “a free jet.” Does this mean that the Qataris delivers a side-and-day aircraft with all the security measures that have already been built in? If so, who has installed those security measures, and how do we know that they are properly installed? “Asked Schumer.” If this, as President Trump promised, is a free jet, will the Qataris pay for those very sensitive installations, or will US taxpayers cover the costs? “
Schumer cannot block these nominees with this tactic, but he can delay their consideration. It is not really clear whether the judicial nominees would have been held for various other reasons, given the vast majority of Trump nominees have already been held in this way.
The office of legal adviser at the Doj has drawn up a memo in which it was stated that the acceptance of the aircraft was legal, a high DOJ officer told NBC News on Monday. The Doj refused to release the memo, which attorney -general Pam Bondi approved.
In his comments, Schumer called for Bondi to testify for the congress to explain the conclusion that there is no conflict and to answer a number of questions regarding the gift.
“The attorney -general must testify for both the house and the senate to explain why Donald Trump’s donation does not violate the clause of emoluments – who requires the approval of the congress – or other ethical laws,” Schumer said. “Until the Attorney General explains its blatant awkward decision and we get full and extensive answers to these and other questions, I will maintain all political nominees to the Ministry of Justice.”
Before he left for his trip to the middle on Monday, Trump defended his decision to accept the aircraft gift, which he called ‘a very nice gesture’. He also said that it would eventually be taken out of use and be given to his presidential library.
“Now I could be a stupid person and say,” Oh no, we don’t want a free plane, “he told reporters in the White House.” I would never be anyone to reject that kind of offer. “
Some legal expertsHowever, have wondered how a gift that Trump would follow from his office could be according to the emolument clause. Democrats and even some Republicans have suggested that the Jet can be seen as a conflict of interest.
Senator Ted Cruz, R-Texas, a narrow ally of the president, told CNBC on Tuesday that “the plane causes considerable espionage and monitoring problems.”
Some Democrats have also questioned the involvement of Bondi in the case because she has previously lobbyed for the government of Qatar.
The laws and former intelligence officials note that the massive spy risks of such a gift from a foreign government and the long history of gifts that turned out to be more than they appeared. In 1945, for example, Soviet children donated the American ambassador in Moscow a wooden cut by America’s big seal, and A listening device in the object was discovered seven years later.
