Winning and losses are fairly trivial this point, because the play -offs are almost off the table, although there is only only real value in the concept position. Chris Sale returns for Atlanta after breaking his ribs who dive for a ball, because he wanted to go back to competitive pitching in preparation for a normally low season.
The 36-year-old sale had a great season after a few shaky (and breakdown) started the season before the injury derailed him. He had a 2.69 FIP and a 3.20 XFIP on his 89.1 innings and generally played in line with his career basis, which may look like a Hall of Fame career if he can put together a good season or two. Tomorrow it is about avoiding injuries for the veteran plagued by injuries and hope that Chris can find his things and command in his few starts before the low season.
On the other hand, the Phillies Cristopher Sanchez, a CY Young candidate, start behind the favorite, Paul Skkenes. Sanchez really had a good year last year, on the back of a low running speed and a high ground balls. He has taken another step this year, with a leap of firm below average to solid above average in terms of strikeout speed, while retaining his walking and ground ball rates. That is a pretty fantastic improvement. Sanchez is a very impressive pitcher, with a mix of three pitch on the left with a good speed and elite extension on 6’6. He throws his zinc shed almost half the time with a fantastic change as his best pitch and a very vertical slider to complete his arsenal. All its pitches are mistaken on the arm side compared to the average shape of the competition for the pitch type.
If Chris Sale seems to be in itself, we could have a treat of a pitching matchup, although it will be very difficult for the Braves to defeat the Phillies with Sanchez on the hill.
