Chris Paul recently opened up about his uncertain future during an appearance on Prime Sports’ Good Sports with Kevin Hart and Kenan Thompson, making it clear he is not ready for his career to quietly fade away.

Reflecting on his current situation with the Los Angeles Clippers and the possibility that his playing days may be coming to an end, Paul emphasized that the way things have unfolded is not a good fit for him.

“I still feel like I have more to give,” he said. “I do my best every day, and when you love something so much, you don’t want it to just end without any meaning.”

Paul explained that while he has appreciated the extra time he has been able to spend with his family, especially attending his children’s games, the competitive fire has not gone away.

“I enjoyed being present at home, there’s no doubt about that,” he said. “But part of me still wakes up and thinks about the game, thinks about participating, thinks about being in those moments again.”

As of now, Paul admits he doesn’t know where or how he wants his career to end.

“I don’t even know which jersey I would like to end up in,” he said. “I just know I don’t want it to feel unfinished.”

Paul has not appeared in a game for the Clippers since December 1.

During an East Coast road trip, the organization made the decision to send the veteran guard home, with the front office and coaching staff agreeing it was best for all parties, while his roster status remained unresolved.

Reports indicate that tension had increased in the locker room, as a result of Paul regularly challenging head coach Ty Lue and sometimes clashing with fellow veterans.

“Everyone wants to win, but sometimes the votes don’t match up,” Paul said. “That doesn’t mean the passion isn’t real.”

Despite the divorce, the veteran point guard is still under contract with the Clippers.

If he isn’t moved before the Feb. 5 trade deadline, the expectation around the league is that Los Angeles will cut him, opening the door to free agency.

Last summer, Paul was selective about possible destinations, narrowing his list to teams near his home in Los Angeles.

Whether he would expand those preferences if he becomes available remains unclear.

“I’ve always appreciated being close to my family,” says Paul. “But if you love the game, you have to weigh everything.”
