Cholamandalam MS General Insurance reports a marginal increase in GWP

Cholamandalam MS General Insurance Company (Chola MS), a joint venture between Murugappa Group and Japan’s Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance Group, on Tuesday reported gross written premium (GWP) of ₹2,220 crore in the quarter ended September 2025 (Q2FY26), compared to ₹2,191 crore in the same quarter last year.

The GWP for the six months ended September 2025 (H1FY26) was only marginally ₹4217 cr, compared to ₹4136 cr in the same period a year ago. The company attributed this to the loss of crop operations (₹383 crore in the corresponding half-year) and the 1/n method for GWP recognition with effect from October 1, 2024.

Chola MS also had ₹202 crores of long-term non-motor premiums in the half year, the recognition of which has been deferred to the respective annual periods. The insurer settled more than 3 lakh claims across industries in the six months.

“Our continued focus on growing with profitability continues to drive our growth and performance. As we progress in our digital transformation journey, we remain committed to delivering superior customer experiences through innovation and operational excellence,” V. Suryanarayanan, Managing Director of Chola MS, said in a statement.

Chola MS made progress on its technology transformation initiatives this quarter, including the launch of its self-claims management platform during the quarter.
