The Chery O5, a new name for the Omoda 5 -Facelift, will be launched in Malaysia on 10 September. We know this from the company’s counting mail on social media – earlier today, Chery Malaysia posted the ‘2 days’ image that you see above, with the new wheels of the O5.
“We are 2 days away! The countdown is on and the streets are about to change. The new Chery O5 is almost here, ready to put trends, turn heads and define what it means to make an entrance,” is the caption.
Another message announces a launch road show for the O5, which will be held at the busiest intersection in Malaysia – for Lot 10, opposite KL’s version of the Shibuya Scramble Crossing. This is after Chery Malaysia released a first teaser -cum registration of interest in the O5 last week.

The facelifted Omoda 5 came up in Russia for the first time last year in Russia and in July we have the renewed B-SUV from Indonesia-where it is known as the Chery C5. Just like these two markets, our O5 will wear Omoda Branding, although it is sold by Chery Malaysia and not by the Omoda | Jaecoo arm.
The front-end of the original Omoda 5 was a love or hatred affair thanks to that wide, strewn schedule; Although it is still covered a huge area on the facelift, the shiny studs have disappeared and the new grid consists of body -colored squares. It is a more subtle look, and the red highlights of the pre-facelift around the body and the wheels (new design, completely black) have also been removed. It now looks more mature and nicer, don’t you think?
The Indonesian car car retains the well-known 1.5-liter turbo-four engine (156 hp and 230 Nm), but the CVT with nine virtual proportions has been dropped for a six-speed gearbox with six gears. The original torsion bar rear-wheel suspension has also been replaced by a multi-link setup.

The interior of the Chery is still clean and modern, and the number of kit was never a problem, so we can expect more from the same thing, including twin 10.25-inch screens, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, ventilated seats, double zone car Air-Con, an eight-speaking Sony Audiosystem and a wireless. Expect the usual six airbags, level 2 ADAS Driver Assist functions and a ‘540 degre’ camera system on safety front.
The catalog price for the pre-facelift Omoda 5 was RM108.800 for the C-variant and RM118,800 for the H before the discounding came into play. You would think that with raised competition (the heavily faceleted and improved Proton X50 is priced from RM85,800 to RM109.300), Chery Malaysia will give the O5 lower RRPs, but there is also a limited space for maneuvers, because the smaller TigGo -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Kruis -Tig -Terret
