Chelttenham Festival: to reduce capacity and price of Pint

Organizers of the Cheltenham festival are the lowering of capacity and the price of a pint after criticism from spectators.

The four-day meeting in March is the showpiece of the Jump Racing calendar, but it has experienced a clear decline with gamblers who are unhappy about the costs.

A pint tap beer or cider is reduced by 30p to £ 7.50 this season to £ 7.50.

The last day of the festival, with the Cheltenham Gold Cup, was sold out this year, but some people complained about overcrowding on that day.

The daily capacity will be reduced from 68,500 to 66,000, although no presence on the first three days in 2025 was 56,000.

The prize of drinks, and in particular Guinness – with an estimated 265,000 pints sold during the week – has been a particularly painful point among gamblers.

“We regularly benchmark our food and drink prices in addition to other major sports locations and similar events,” said Curs Chief Executive Guy Lavender.

“Although we are subject to the same increase in goods and services as all industries, we have made the decision to lower the price of design beers and cider … for the 2025/26 season.”

He said the reduction would lower prices until 2022 levels.

For comparison, a pint of beer during the Wimbledon tennis of this year was £ 8.45, while it would have returned to the open championship of Golf.
