Chelsea were linked with a shock move for Cristiano Ronaldo this summer

Chelsea striker Liam Delap has been linked with a move to Everton in recent weeks, less than a year after his move from Ipswich Town, while Nicolas Jackson also appears to have no future at Stamford Bridge when he returns from a loan deal.

Liam Rosenior would likely run out of options to take the lead as only Joao Pedro would be available to him, possibly alongside the less experienced Marc Guiu, opening the door for the club to bring in a number nine.

Remember new hair

Football Insider reported this that a shock transfer for Cristiano Ronaldo could be on the cards this summer. The Blues are keeping an eye on his future at Al-Nassr, amid the Portuguese’s recent boycott due to Saudi PIF’s lack of investment in the club.

Despite turning 41 earlier this year, Ronaldo is one of the best marksmen in the world scored 21 goals and provided three assists in all competitions this season, and would be an exciting short-term option for Chelsea to pursue over the summer.

An unlikely proposition

Even though Chelsea have been linked with Cristiano Ronaldo from the start, it is difficult to imagine that the Blues would be willing to disrupt their sporting project, which revolves around signing younger players, to accommodate a striker in the twilight of his career.

That said, Ronaldo may not be open to a return to Europe either as he will have to make huge compromises on his pay cheque. His only motivating factor after the World Cup is probably to score a thousand goals in his career, which is more achievable at Al-Nassr.

Nevertheless, there may be some truth to Chelsea’s desire to bring in a consistent source of goals to compete for minutes with Joao Pedro in the final third and it remains to be seen if there are any concrete names on their shortlist.
