Chelsea star Enzo Fernandez suffers an injury

Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has confirmed he will miss the upcoming international break with Argentina due to an ongoing knee problem.

The World Cup winner was forced to pause his involvement with the national team during last month’s international break after being diagnosed with bone edema in his right knee – a condition that causes fluid retention.

Chelsea have been cautious with the 24-year-old’s workload in recent weeks Fernandez has now admitted it that the knee problem had been bothering him since the start of the season.

After Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Wolves on Saturday evening, he acknowledged that he had been ‘having problems with my knee for the past four months’.

Argentina’s only scheduled match this month is a friendly against Angola on November 14. However, the midfielder has withdrawn from the squad and will now undergo further assessment at Chelsea’s training base in Cobham.

“I won’t be available for Argentina,” Fernandez said. ‘I was just talking to the medical team because my knee had been bothering me for four months.

‘I developed a bone edema that got worse in recent weeks and months because we played a lot of matches.

“I think the most important thing is the end of the season and I think it is good to make this decision together. Always with respect for the doctors and all that.’

Blow

Despite a frustrating opening half at Stamford Bridge, Fernandez proved crucial in injecting the creativity Chelsea needed to unlock the visitors’ compact defense after the break.

The Argentine midfielder deservedly claimed the honor of Premier League Player of the Match, dictating play from the center of the park with his exceptional passing range and vision.

His composure and control helped others flourish, with Malo Gusto scoring his first goal for Chelsea in what was his 98th appearance, while Joao Pedro and Pedro Neto also found the net in the second half.

The injury update comes just as club football pauses for the international break – a period which should give Fernandez valuable time to recover and sort out his knee problem. However, once the action resumes, Chelsea will face an intense series of fixtures.

The Blues travel to Turf Moor to face Burnley on November 22, before hosting Barcelona in a crucial Champions League match three days later.

The month will then conclude with a high-stakes London derby against title-chasing Arsenal at Stamford Bridge to round off what promises to be a demanding schedule before Christmas.
