Chelsea have made a late attempt to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lucas Bergvall during the recently concluded winter transfer window. David Ornstein.
Last summer, Chelsea were on the verge of signing a new attacking midfielder who can play multiple roles.

The club had close ties with Xavi Simons and were reportedly in talks, but London rivals Tottenham trumped them to secure his signature on deadline day.
They also wanted to sign Fermin Lopez from Barcelona, but a transfer did not materialize as the Spaniard remained with the LaLiga champions and has since extended his contract until 2031.
With options now short, the Blues turned to Brighton & Hove Albion to sign Facundo Buonanotte on a one-year loan spell, where he made eight appearances before completing his deal to sign for Leeds United in January for the remainder of the season.
With Buonanotte gone and concerns over Cole Palmer’s fitness, Chelsea appear to have explored their midfield options during the winter transfer window. Ornstein claims the London giants have made inquiries about a possible transfer from Bergvall to Stamford Bridge.
Amid his long-term injury this season, the 20-year-old has played a smaller role, which led to interest from the Blues in his services in January, according to the report.
To write The Athletics, Ornstein reveals Chelsea’s interest stemmed from their failure to sign Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz before he joined his former club, Aston Villa, who also made inquiries about Bergvall.
Chelsea have their own Bergvall in Reggie Walsh
However, despite the interest from both clubs, the report adds that Tottenham rejected any approach to the midfielder and made it clear that they were not considering his departure from the club where he is under contract until 2031.
The Blues are already well stocked in the central areas, with several options including highly rated academy talent Reggie Walsh.
The England U18 star became Chelsea’s third youngest debutant, after Ian Hamilton and Kingsley Whiffen, when he made his debut against Bergvall’s former club Djurgårdens IF in the semi-finals of the 2024/25 UEFA Conference League.
In the 5-1 win over Ajax this season, he surpassed Dominic Solanke’s 11-year record to become Chelsea’s youngest-ever UEFA Champions League debutant and the second-youngest Englishman to make his debut in the competition after Jack Wilshere.
The 17-year-old has always shown promise when called upon and has proven to be reliable. Given enough time, he could become a crucial player for the club.
As such, Chelsea should look inward to give Walsh more playing time rather than breaking the bank, with Bergvall likely to demand a fee well in excess of his £34 million. Transfer market valuation.
