Chelsea have left no stone unturned in the recent past in identifying young talent from both Europe and South America, and signing those players to long-term contracts before developing them further and eventually being promoted to the first team.
It is a strategy that is starting to pay off for them, both sportingly and financially, and could be a direction they will continue to pursue in the years to come. That said, they have identified another popular option that they could potentially acquire.
Transfers have been reported that the Blues are keen to sign Palmeiras striker Vitor Roque. He returned to Brazil from Barcelona earlier this year and has done very well in his home country with 17 goals and three assists in the current season.
Brazilian football runs from March to December, with Roque making 30 appearances in his country’s Serie A and Copa Libertadores, producing impressive numbers that could potentially earn him a route back to Europe.
It is unlikely that Roque will go to Chelsea
Vitor Roque struggled for playing time at Barcelona under both Hansi Flick and Xavi due to competition from Robert Lewandowski, and life at Chelsea is unlikely to get any easier for him if he joins them.
With Joao Pedro and Liam Delap having recently acquired number nine from Enzo Maresca, Roque is in danger of becoming a secondary option again and after a difficult spell at Barcelona, the 20-year-old is unlikely to risk his career again.
Nevertheless, he could be a player. BlueCo may consider signing for Strasbourg with one eye on developing him in the coming years and then sending him to Chelsea as both clubs are owned by the consortium of Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.
That’s him valued at £17 million on Transfermarktbut should the striker continue his good form for a few more months, his value could increase significantly due to his age and sky-high potential.
