Chelsea are in talks to sign Daniel Munoz from Crystal Palace

Chelsea have reportedly opened talks to sign Crystal Palace defender Daniel Munoz, according to the Spanish newspaper Transfers.

Since moving to Selhurst Park from KRC Genk last year, the Colombian has established himself as an integral part of Oliver Glasner’s starting line-up.

He led his team to win the FA Cup last season, which was the Eagles’ first major trophy in the club’s history. In addition, the defender helped the south London club win the Community Shield, beating Premier League champions Liverpool on penalties ahead of this season.

The 29-year-old has continued to put in solid performances this season, scoring four goals in all competitions. In addition, he has helped his team keep seven clean sheets.

Now, Transfers states that after his standout performances in recent seasons, Munoz has started to attract a lot of attention ahead of the upcoming winter transfer window.

Chelsea are interested in signing him and have already held informal discussions with the player’s representatives about this deal. However, in addition to the Blues, Manchester City and Barcelona are also participating in this race and have contacted the players’ agents.

Munoz to Chelsea

The Spanish newspaper claims that given the growing interest in Munoz, Crystal Palace could be forced to let him leave. The South American is valued at around £22 million Transfer market and has three years left on his current contract. So they will likely demand a large fee to approve his departure.

Munoz usually plays in the right-back position for his country, but Glasner deploys him in the RWB position. As Enzo Maresca deploys his team in the back four system, Chelsea are planning to buy him to strengthen the RB position.

However, the West London club already has Reece James and Malo Gusto for this role. Although James has found it difficult to stay fit in recent years, he is playing regularly this season.

So if he can maintain his fitness, Chelsea won’t need to buy a new right-back. However, it will be interesting to see whether Chelsea will ultimately make a concrete move to lure Munoz to Stamford Bridge in January or next summer.
