Chelsea have reportedly made contact to trump Arsenal in the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Arda Guler. Caught offside.
The Blues initially wanted to sign a new creative midfielder to support Cole Palmer last summer. A plethora of names have been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge, including Fermin Lopez and Nico Paz.
However, the West London club ultimately decided to sign Facundo Buonanotte from Brighton & Hove Albion on a short-term loan. The Argentinian struggled to find regular playing time in the first half of this season, so Chelsea decided to send him back to the Seagulls. He will now play for Leeds United for the remainder of this season.
Palmer has been struggling with a groin problem so far this season and has made just 11 appearances in all competitions. So it seems that Chelsea have started exploring options to strengthen the number 10 position.
Caught offside claim that Chelsea are keen to sign Guler and have already made contact several times to find out more about the details of signing him. Although the Turkey international is not yet desperate to leave Real Madrid, Chelsea are willing to do their utmost to persuade him to join.
On the other hand, with the 20-year-old’s contract running until 2029, Los Blancos are in no rush to sell him just yet. However, they may be open to changing their position if they receive an offer worth up to £87 million.
The report states that Chelsea are not the only club interested in Guler. Arsenal are also in this race and are considering an upgrade from the number 10 position following the inconsistent performances of Martin Odegaard and Eberechi Eze so far this season.
Conflict
Arsenal have long had an interest in the Real Madrid star, with the Gunners keeping a close eye on his development since October 2024. Now they could make a move to permanently secure his service in January or next summer.
Guler is a technically gifted left-footed creative midfielder, but is also efficient in the box-to-box role. In addition, he can provide cover on the right flank if necessary.
After remaining on the periphery for the past two seasons, Guler has shown promising performances this season, scoring fourteen goals in all competitions.
He is a very talented player and could be a smart signing for Arsenal or Chelsea, should either club ultimately manage to secure his service.
