Apple has urged Australians with older iPhones and Apple Watches to update their software to reduce the risk of connection issues with emergency calls.
The warning was first issued in December and came after other older smartphones experienced the problem “technical malfunction” which prevented them from connecting to an alternate network when calling triple-zero if their primary network was unavailable.
The warning initially applied to iPhone 12 devices, but this week Apple expanded the list to include other older iPhones and Apple Watches.
“In the rare event that these exceptional circumstances affecting mobile operator networks were to occur again, some older mobile phones may still experience the same problem reaching emergency services via an alternative available network,” Apple said in a statement.
