Picks and analysis for this afternoon’s card of Charles Town Races:
- VARIETIES ON A MAP: 8
- TRANSFERS: Jackpot pick 6, $54,349
- POST TIME: 7:00 PM
RACE 1
| 4. Jester’s song | Makes first start in Farrior barn (31% first of claim at CT) after decent effort vs similar; should be back a few lengths early and looking to attack |
| 2. InterMiami | Lots of early zip for this guy, but that first time off the bench wasn’t very good as he was free at a slow pace the entire distance and couldn’t close the deal; will have to take a step forward, but will probably count on favoritism |
| 1. Coronation time | Decent attempts versus similar ones and cuts here at the desired distance |

RACE 2
| 5. Belle Cause | A useful return to action in over a year and a step further from there; added soil probably a positive |
| 3. Preshow hype | Nice win in the last, but DQed after ousting an inner rival early; repetition makes her tough |
| 4. Fancy Conchita | Half-sister of $380k earner Fancy Concho has finished well lately and should benefit from additional ground |
RACE 3
| 2. Gericault | Lately took the lead late compared to comparables, but couldn’t hold on; An 0-for-6 record gives pause, but on the other hand he has finished second or third five times |
| 6. Singularity | Secretly good effort the other day, when he was dragged forward from the outside box and didn’t get a breather the entire journey, but played to the finish |
| 3. Elections | Probably heavily deployed on the first local shed attempt which did very well this meeting, but recent early sluggishness advises caution |

RACE 4
| 4. Big Mo Gee | Solid effort last despite slow start, smartly moving between horses for place; will be tough if he can get out of the gate in good order |
| 7. The Commission | Won as a 2-5 shot should be with a local arc |
| 3. McHale | No idea what to think about this guy being the first in the Brown barn, but the new trainer has a 21% success rate on horses going 4 1/2 furlongs for the first time in the barn |
RACE 5
| 1. Titled defense | Trainer Schoenthal (2.65 ROI with new starters) comes with a Maryland-bred Golden Lad filly that is one and a half to three debut winners |
| 5. Netta Rox | Some tough work for this Jimmy Creed filly making her debut for trainer Javier Contreras |
| 6. Won Ton | Tonalist is slightly below average with two-year freshmen, and despite a 20% success rate, trainer Runco’s ROI with two-year rookie runners is 0.73; good works and maybe win, but the odds can be hard to swallow |

RACE 6
| 1. Coastal cruise | Half-brother to stakes winners Coastal Mission and Lewisfield, who looks like he could become one of them too, after a pair of dominant wins; extra land shouldn’t be a problem |
| 7. Sunbeam | The fast type was outmatched in the WVBC Russell Road, but may be able to keep this one under control for quite some time |
| 3. Midnight Mesa | Makes the third start from the bench and is heading in the right direction |
RACE 7
| 6. Moonlit Notion | Tend to forgive at the latest if anxious before the race and empty late; 4-for-5 during the trip |
| 5. Kissing | One of a number of these with early footing, but won the trip from right next to it |
| 4. Irish hero | It may be the speed of speed, but arrives after a few off-target excursions; classroom lighting positive |
RACE 8
| 6. Like cop | Overmatched versus starter enemies, but previous form against these types was plenty good enough |
| 4. Lars | Game try the latter and can be the speed of the speed |
| 1. Watson dinner | Has done better, but has done the best job on turf and turf |
