Picks and analysis for tonight’s card of Charles Town Races:

RACE 1

5. Dead pan	The last pair isn’t great, but this one has better attempts to get back into second place after Farrior’s claim; can be the speed of the speed
1. Chasing Colton	Been ahead of the winner inside the furlong post lately but couldn’t seal the deal
2. CR’s Uncle Lino	A late race should come at the end, but the expected pace scenario does him no favors

RACE 2

5.Yankee Doodle Kid	Nice looking score in final vs similar; could maybe dip in here and save a bit of ground, rather than coming out last if he hangs out wide in both corners
3. Race hotline	It should be too late, and although there are no confirmed frontrunners here who can guarantee a pace, some of them will emerge early and be able to create a favorable scenario; runner-up to the last disabled benefit status next out
7. Full evidence	Must be able to make the most of tactical speed while breaking from the outside

RACE 3

2. Coach Siggy	Fitted a ball last week after running a close second while being ahead of the rest on his debut
4. Fiber rocks	The first for the Grams stable comes from the local top sire Fiber Sonde (16% with 2-year-old firsts); only sibling won in third career start
5. Satherny	Decent debut, but no match for winner or top pick here

RACE 4

6. Payment zone	Returns to CT, where he was coming off a similar win in August; could be the speed of speed here, but if not, pulled far out to achieve the best position from which tactical speed can be used
5. White mules	Continues to run some pretty good races, and back-to-back winner Radar Alert returned to win next, while last-out winner Falcon Blue goes 2-for-2 down the strip
3. Socially awkward	Been lagging behind Radar Alert well enough lately and falling back in class

RACE 5

11. Complex cat	Makes the first start in Viand’s barn (18% off the switch) and turns on Lasix for the first time; third starts from the bench
1. Aim at the cork	The last two attempts on the trip were better, including a two-back outing in the Dash for Cash; class relief a plus
4. Go, go Prancer	The first couple in the Farrior barn was bland; comes third off the bench here after showing speed and fading in two turns

RACE 6

9. Big dilemma	Not much seen recently as he was beaten at odds of 1-9, but previous form was plenty good enough to compete here
2. The Commission	A light breed has made short work of its conditions; tries two turns for the first time; runner-up to the last won next
7. Strategist	Produces good racing wherever they see him

RACE 7

4. Minister of Road	This is a competitive group, so keep an eye on the toteboard for value (and clues); firstly the claim for 18% Meyers stable and attracts leading rider
2. Magical surprise	Ran too well to lose last time when he knocked it out with 1-9 Rum N Coke in the first two-inning attempt in 18 months; that race has produced another winner
5. Happy son	The easy winner is the last to succeed as a 4-5 shot should; trainer Brown is winning at a 12% clip, with the latest winners moving to a benefit company

RACE 8

2. Song and a breeze	Speedy-type drops to its lowest level yet after a credible effort in a race that has produced four subsequent winners; trainer Murdock goes 3-for-3 when peeling off the blinders
11. Quotient	Makes second start in the Gazzier shed and second from the bench, and although the last of these was ugly, previous dirt attempts fit in here
5. Tolly’s Bourbon	Made some progress in the later stages of the debut after a slow start, narrowly missing out on third place; improvement is very possible at the second start of your career
1. Steady	Showed good speed lately
